COMPETITION IS MORE THAN HARD SPARRING

Connect technique, rules, decisions and training load.

A tournament demands more than one hard training round. Points, time, legal techniques, match management and the ability to make clear decisions under pressure matter alongside conditioning and technique.

Match-specific decisions

Positions are understood not only technically but also in the context of points, time and risk.

Gi & No-Gi

Athletes competing in different formats need to account for grip fighting, pace and rules differences.

Drills & sparring

Situational repetition and live rounds help make decisions reproducible under increasing resistance.

Rules knowledge

AJP and ADCC use different scoring and decision logic. Rules knowledge is part of serious competition preparation.

RELEVANT SESSIONS IN THE SCHEDULE

Drills, sparring and competition sessions.

The current schedule includes several sessions relevant to competition preparation. Adults prepare through regular Gi/No-Gi training, drills, sparring and coaching; we deliberately do not claim a separate adult competition class when it is not listed in the timetable.

COMPETITION BUILDING BLOCKS

From technical detail to match logic.

Technical systems

Positions, transitions and submissions are developed as connected decision pathways rather than isolated techniques.

Situational training

Starting from defined positions reduces randomness and creates repeatable work under realistic resistance.

Rules & refereeing

Rules knowledge helps athletes and coaches understand scores, penalties, legal techniques and tactical decisions correctly.

Kids Competition

The current youth schedule includes dedicated Competition/Drills sessions. Competition remains optional.

COACHING

Coaches who make technique understandable.

The coaching team combines teaching experience, technical detail and practical mat experience.

FAQ

Common questions about Competition BJJ in Zurich.

01Do I have to compete if I train with you?+

No. Competition is optional. You can practise BJJ entirely as a recreational and long-term training activity.

02Is there a dedicated adult competition class?+

The current schedule does not list a separate adult competition class. Adults prepare through Gi/No-Gi classes, drills, sparring and coaching.

03Is there competition training for kids?+

Yes. The current schedule includes dedicated Kids Competition or Competition/Drills sessions for the competition team.

04Which rules do you train?+

For traditional Gi and No-Gi BJJ we use AJP as a core rules reference, and for submission grappling we also work with ADCC. The rules of the specific event always take precedence.

05Can a beginner compete later?+

Yes. First build a sound technical base, controlled live-training experience and rules knowledge. You can then discuss whether and when a tournament makes sense with the coaches.

06Can I focus on No-Gi competition?+

Yes. The Zurich schedule includes regular No-Gi classes, drills and sparring. The right event or ruleset depends on your specific goal.
