CORPORATE · LEADERSHIP · TEAMS · THALWIL

Leadership & team building on the mat.

Try something new together. Stay composed under pressure. Take responsibility for one another. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu offers a hands-on experience of collaboration for leaders and teams looking for a fresh perspective on working together.

Enquire about a corporate package

Step out of your routine. Learn together.

On the mat, a job title only takes you so far. What matters is attention, clear communication and a willingness to be a beginner again. Guided partner exercises let you explore how you respond to unfamiliar situations and find solutions together. We then reflect on what these experiences can mean for collaboration at work.

What your team can take away

Trust & responsibility

Partner exercises work when both people pay attention, respect boundaries and agree on the pace. At work: clarify expectations, listen and take responsibility for shared outcomes.

Clarity under pressure

Pause in an unfamiliar position, assess the situation and choose a next step. In leadership: question automatic reactions and make deliberate decisions under time pressure.

Adaptability & strategy

When an approach does not work, adjust the angle, timing or method. At work: test assumptions, use feedback and adapt your plan to the situation.

Learning culture & self-leadership

Try, reach a limit, ask questions and start again. For leaders: be open about what you do not know and model a willingness to learn.

The experience is the starting point. Reflection brings it to work.

  1. Define your goals

We discuss the occasion, group size, available time and your priorities, from a shared team event to a workshop for managers.

  2. Explore together

An introduction and guided BJJ partner exercises adapted to the group. No previous experience is needed; intensity and physical contact are discussed in advance. Participation in each exercise is voluntary.

  3. Reflect & apply

We discuss observations from the exercises and identify practical ideas for work, such as clearer agreements, a deliberate pause before decisions or a more open approach to feedback.

For management teams, leaders, project teams and organisations that want to deepen collaboration through a shared experience.

Respect and personal boundaries are part of the format. An agreed stop signal ends an exercise immediately. The focus is shared learning; nobody has to prove themselves in a competition.

Your team. Your goals. Your package.

Exclusively at our Silver Coast Dojo in Thalwil: content, duration and format are tailored to your needs. Tell us your group size, preferred date and goals, and we will prepare an individual proposal on request.

Coach Luiz takes on the ADCC World Championship

From our mats to one of grappling’s biggest stages: Coach Luiz Finocchio will compete at the ADCC World Championship in Kraków.

Read update

One of grappling’s biggest stages is calling: our coach Luiz Finocchio will compete as an athlete at the ADCC World Championship in Kraków.

Luiz brings to the competition exactly what he shares with our team every day — technical precision, courage under pressure and the determination to keep improving. At Tiago de Paula BJJ, we believe that the strongest athletes never stop being students. Luiz embodies that philosophy every time he steps onto the mat, whether as a coach or competitor.

The entire team is behind you, Luiz. Trust your game, embrace the challenge and show Kraków what you have built through years of hard work. One team. One fight. Oss!

From helping out to Kraków: Michael wins the ADCC VIP pass

Our loyal “old guard” athlete Michael M. wins a VIP two-day pass for the ADCC Pro World Championship in Kraków.

Read update

Our national competitions would not be possible without the people who give their time, energy and commitment behind the scenes. As a special thank-you, this year we were able to raffle an incredible prize among all our volunteers: a VIP two-day pass for the ADCC Pro World Championship in Kraków.

The lucky winner is our loyal “old guard” athlete Michael M. He is living proof that there is no wrong age to begin Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. What matters is the courage to start, the consistency to keep showing up and the willingness to keep learning — one training session at a time.

Congratulations, Michael! We wish you an unforgettable weekend in Kraków. Enjoy the action, cheer loudly for the team — and make sure you bring back a few new techniques for us. We will be taking notes. ;-) Oss!

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions before your first roll?

Straight answers to the questions new members and parents ask most often.

01Do I need to be fit or have martial arts experience before I start?+

No. Beginners are welcome and you build fitness through training. The coach adapts your first sessions to your level and experience.

02How do I book a trial class?+

Send us a trial class request and tell us whether you prefer Zurich or Thalwil, which programme interests you and which day suits you. The team will recommend a suitable class and confirm the details with you.

03What should I bring to my first class?+

Comfortable sportswear without zips, a water bottle and flip-flops are enough. Arrive a few minutes early. If you need a Gi, contact us before the class.

04At what age can children start BJJ?+

The kids programme starts from age 3 in Zurich and age 4 in Thalwil. The current schedule shows the age groups at each dojo, and the team will help you choose the right class for your child.

05Can my child try a class before joining?+

Yes. Contact us for a kids trial class and tell us your child's age, preferred dojo and possible days. We will recommend the right group and explain what your child should bring.

06What do children learn in BJJ classes?+

The age-appropriate classes combine BJJ fundamentals with movement, coordination and playful exercises. Children develop confidence, discipline and social skills while learning to train respectfully with others.

07My child is shy or nervous. Can they still try BJJ?+

Yes. Shy or cautious children are welcome. Tell us when requesting the trial class so we can recommend an age-appropriate group and let the coach know. The first session is about getting to know the room, the coach and the group at a manageable pace; your child does not need previous martial arts experience.

08Is Women Only BJJ suitable for complete beginners?+

Yes. Women Only is beginner-friendly and offers a focused environment in which women can learn BJJ at their own pace. No previous martial arts experience or special fitness level is required.

09Can women also join the regular adult BJJ classes?+

Yes. Women can choose the regular adult BJJ programme, the dedicated Women Only classes, or both, depending on the selected membership. Ask the team which option best fits your goals.

10Can I book private BJJ or MMA lessons?+

Yes. Private lessons are available for BJJ or MMA and can be tailored to beginners, experienced athletes, competition preparation or specific technical goals. Contact the team to discuss the coach, focus and available times.

11Are private lessons available for two people or small groups?+

Yes. In addition to one-to-one coaching, private training can be booked for two people or a small group. Current packages and prices are listed in the Private Training section.

12What is the difference between Gi and No-Gi?+

Gi classes are trained in the traditional BJJ uniform and include techniques that use the jacket and trousers for grips. No-Gi is trained in close-fitting sportswear without those grips. Both develop the same core BJJ principles and beginners can start with either format.

13Can I train in English?+

Yes. Tiago de Paula BJJ has an international team and English-speaking coaches. Tell us when requesting your trial class if you would prefer guidance in English.

14Can I train at both dojos?+

Membership access can depend on the selected plan. Ask the team before booking if you would like to use both Zurich and Thalwil.

15I already train BJJ elsewhere. Can I drop in while visiting Zurich or Thalwil?+

Yes. Visiting grapplers can use the Guest Day Pass for CHF 35. Contact the team before you come so we can recommend a suitable class and confirm the details for your visit.

16What happens during school holidays?+

Holiday schedules and temporary closures are published in the announcement bar, the schedule notice and the news section.
